I am looking for the best supplier (price and selection) for items like jacks, jack stands, wrenchs, screwdrivers, tool chests, etc. Are there better sources on the web than say places like AutoZone or Pep Boys? Just trying to be an educated consumer before I begin investing in tools. Thanks!

I think one of the best places is www.harborfreight.com. Most tools seem to be made overseas anyway..these guys sell for less. If you are lucky enough to have a retail outlet near you, you can take the internet pricing (which is lower) to teh store and they will sell it to you for that.
I have bought many airtools form them and have not had a single problem.

When buying Jack Stands though Go with the biggest and best, those little ones that sell for 10 bucks a pair are not worth a shite when you have the car up 24 inches in the air, I have a couple I use as extra protection but they are max'ed out when using, get some 6 ton stands/ I use Harbor Freight stuff ( wrenches and Jacks ) as extra tools, seem to be okay for made in China stuff.

An alternative to Harbor Freight is www.northerntool.com
They seem to deliver quicker than HF.

I have been quite pleased with the stuff from Harbor Frieght. Some of the stuff in quality made in USA with no brand name. The really cheap stuff is well really cheap stuff, made in red China crap.
Spend a little bit more on good tools because it will reward you in the end.
... FWIW Sears Craftsman stuff has been getting worse and worse! Try the Husky stuff at Home Depot, it is the best bargain tools I know of... Then again when I use a friends Snap-On stuff (used to be a dealer) I am just amazed how good that stuff is, makes everything else pale in comparison. If I owned a shop and depended on my tools for a living the cost is well worth it to get Snap-On. Right now I can afford the luxury of going to Sears every few months and exchanging thier weak ass tools that break.
