Window seals are easy IF you know what you are doing.
Look for RUST! Anything else is fairly straight forward.

What to look for in a bus
I'd check the front beam. I thought the one on my 72 was solid until a shock tower ripped off this summer. It had rusted just enough to weaken it. (driving on some bumpy roads) It can be replaced, but it looks like a lot of work.

ease of shifting. My '73 shifts like poop but when I bought it, it was one of those "oh, I can fix that" things. Still haven't gotten around to fixing it but it is a definite pain in the ass. just make sure you can find the gears.
you'll probly want a compression tester too.

Hi Ast,
Yes, definately look under the carpets. Especially since you say it's missing some rear glass. I've seen some pretty nasty cargo areas that looked fine from underneath. Check from the inside where the floor meets the sides. Also check under the front carpets at the front foot area. That's a common place for rust problems.
Check behind the front bumper (bottom of nose), also a bad rust area.
If you can see the backside of the nose from the inside, check for any big indents. Bus noses are notorious for getting punched in and I've seen some pretty thick "bondo" jobs to make it look nice on the outside.
Oh, and the area on the outside directly below the windshield.

What to look for in a bus
Show up with a magnet , flashlight and a screw driver, let the owner know you are going to poke it in a few places so just in case you hit the rust gold mine they wont get mad. I would look at the battery compartment too, some people dump water into them and the boxes dont last.
