I was just curious after the intensive greasy job of cleaning my engine tin on my type IV motor. Why does nobody sell new sheetmetal kits for type IV motors? I see type I kits all the time. A chrome kit would be nice but I would readily buy just a regular plain Jane kit if it was offered. Comments???

Demand? Given the limited # of T4 engines out there, would there be sufficient demand?

Besides, would it fit properly?

And, I I too have been 3 weeks cleaning, wire brushing, phosphoric aciding, priming, painting ...

Worst part of playing with these damn engines.

Buy some cheap oven cleaner from the 99 cent store, the fumes will choke a horse but the stuff works pretty good, I spray it for a few days then hit it with the pressure washer.

I find that nothing works better than some Gunk engine degreaser and alot of elbow grease. I think that the demand is high enough that there would be a market for it.

you must be kidding, look at your shround again. do you know how much that would cost to make????? then how many people would buy it? to make money, they would have to produce thousands of shrouds, and there really isn't enough of a market.
type 1's however, the same shroud can be used on all years, and busses too.

You're right, there were only a few hundred thousand typeIv motors built. They were put into the 72-80 buses, 411-412, porsche 914. Plus sheet metal is extremely expensive Image Although the type 1 production has the type IV motor beat in terms of numbers, the demand I think is great enough to merit small production of sheetmetal kits.
