reduction box blues

Post by smoothbus »

I want to get rid of my reduction boxes..but I am finding it hard to find a complete kit. Does anyone have a complete list of parts I need to change my 58 stock bus. I want to use a freeway flyer trany in it.
Thanks

A freeway flier + the ellimination of the RGBs might make your gears too tall. The bus tranny already has a higher 4th than the beetle w/o RGBs. Swap the R&P and roll with the bus tranny.

There ought to be loads of kits cheap for the RGB ellimination. Check Old Speed, Bus Boys, and Wolfgang Int. Heck for $350 just buy the whole thing out right because it is not worth your time to hunt for "scraps".

It depends what you want to do with your bus as to what kit is right for you.

I like the IRS conversion from Old Speed but it is a PITA compared to the swing axle kit. I am planning some serious mods so what is right for me could not fit the bill for you.

Be warned that once the rear is dropped the front will also need dropped with an adjuster kit. More $ and PITA.

It adds up quick so do not expect an "el cheepo" swap.

There are some good articles in the Euro Look area as well.
