Does anyone know if/where a person might be able to pick up the small white plastic geat that is on the end of the odometer shaft? The shaft that the numbers are on. The little plastic gear. I pulled the speedo off my parts bus since mine hasn't worked for over a year and I want to have a odometer setup for the new engine and this one's got a crack in it. I think I might be able to dab some super glue on it lightly and make it work for a while but thought I would check to see if this was an item that was possible to get your hands on. (Its on a '76 bus)

Thanks

you should be able to find a VDO repair shop or maybe pick one up at a scrap yard and swap the gears. check out your yellow pages, I had a problem with mine just going up in speed never came back down.

Thanks for the info rich. The prob is that my town I live in doesn't have a lot of specialized shops so I'm not sure if we'll have a place like that or not. I will check though, its a good idea. I'll also see what I can find in way of buses in junkyards but don't see many of those either, but I'll check. You don't know of any online source or repair place that might sell that piece do you?

Thanks

I did a search on internet and got a cylinder head sensor out of CA. for my VDO cyl head but they charged me 10 bucks more than part for shipping and handling.
There have been a couple post of people parting out stuff might search in the type 4 parts stuff, we have a Bug swap meet coming up which I hope to get to. will keep eyes open

Busman,

Send your speedo to www.ccspeedometers.com in Florida - a friend sent his 73 speedo there with that problem. They installed a nice brass gear (like the earlier speedos have) and no problems since then.

Brass gear? That would be a really good alternative. Do you know if anyone sells just that brass gear or if that company would? You said that older vw's had the brass gear? It might be good to visit a junk yard and see what turns up. What years had that gear? It wouldn't take 20 mins to install. Its a piece of cake. Hate to have to send it off for that...

Thanks
