getting my engine out help???

Post by luckys420 »

hi all i am in the proccess of removing my engine but i have a queston. i used to have a 71 bus, and to take out the engine i could unbolt the bumber and every thing in the back to have a straight shot right out the back. no lifting on jacks required. now i have a 73 bus and i cant unbolt every thing for a straight shot out. so am i supposed to put the bus on jacks or will the rear end raise when i take the weight off, to slide the engine out. if any body can help that would be great.
thanks

Depends on how much the rear end has sagged through the years. That pancake engine is pretty flat but sometimes you may have to raise one side to get it out.Having both rear wheels off the ground gives you better working room while removing. With the pancake there is more to do under the car to remove an engine because of that upper mount. The extra room is nice. Good luck. Bob Ingman

getting my engine out help???

hey there, ive had the engine out of my 72 more times then i want to think about. i had to use two jacks & two jack stands once i got the rear wheels a inch or so off the floor. i had to remove my progressive weber to gain a little more clearance. after i did it once it was alot easier the second time. i had another bus owner say droping the trans down a bit by removing two of the mounting bolts makes things easy also, but i didnt have two bad of a time with dropping it out. ..........later on......jeff

Don't do it! You will bend the shifter coupler and THEN have a hard time finding reverse until you readjust the linkage or replace the coupler($23 USD)!

You can remove it by jacking it up, putting it on stands and remove the progressive. Mine slid out without removing the prog, but I did have to remove the air cleaner.

Easy Peasy!
