BN4 Gas Heater Question...

Post by vwbusman215 »

Had a question about a heater if anyone might know...
Will a BN4 out of a '73 thing work in a '76 bus? I was just curious if the ducting was the only major difference? I need some heat!! Image

Thanks,

BN4 Gas Heater Question...

Hi,
I think it will work in your bus, because the original gasheater in my ´70-bus is also a BN4. The difference is just the bolt on parts. That would be the harder part, to find these bolt on parts.
Your bus used to have the gasheater under the floor .

BN4 Gas Heater Question...

have a look at your dash... if you have a green know with a "+" sign on it between the emergency flasher and the ash tray, then you already have a gas heater.

Its a BA6, its under the floor smack in the middle of the van, and when it works, it heats the air coming from the heat exchangers, comes out in all the places the air from the heat exchangers come out.

If you have one, go to type2.com, and there are links there that will take you to an online manual for these things which will let you diagnose and repair. Mostly likely, you'll find your major problem is a blown fuse or two, although it would be advisable to take it out, clean it up, and replace the fuel line...

I've got one in my bus, and when its on, the air coming out is hot like a hot air paint stripping gun. Sometimes have to roll windows down in the snow.

BN4 Gas Heater Question...

I don't have any form of heater as way of gas in the bus right now... Just the heat exchangers. I have been looking for a gas unit and found one on ebay, won the bid at 86.00 and then the seller hasn't gotten back to me in three days so I don't know if that's going to work out, but I just spoke to a guy that has one he just took out of a 76 bus just like mine that is complete and functional for 150.00. The other one is from a thing and would require a lot of hunting for the "bolt on parts" that would be required to make it fit right in the bus, but I think this other heater out of the 76 is going to work good. I get all excited thinking about real heat, specially waking up in the mornings in the mountains when its cold!! Image
