I'm not really a newbie so lets assume that i have checked everything that i could think of. The one thing i havent checked is the supposed injector controllers in the distributor. i have had a few ppl tell me to check this But i can't find em. Where are they located what do they look like and how do i get to them. It's on a 1978 bus with a type4 2.0L

Bosch L-jetronic F.I. question
Get a copy of Bosch's Gasoline Fuel-injection System L-Jetronic. I got mine from Rocky Mtn. Motorworks. It is not so much a repair manual, but it does explain the system and how everything works. I have 2 F/I Bugs, a 75 and a 76 convertible, I have never heard of injector controllers in the distributor. One of the bugs we have had for 18 years, and I have had a number of F/I problems with it. I now have a carb motor sitting in the garage waiting to go in it.
On page 9 there is a referance to a electronically controlled injection unit located above the throttle valve. This is for a single point injection system. This system is one injector spraying into the intake manifold. This one injector supplies all of the fuel for the motor. Refering to the L-Jetronic system page 9 says, "Each cylinder has its own fuel injection valve. The valves are solenoid operated and are opened and closed by means of electric pulses from the electric control unit."
I don't think I really helped you, but like I said get the book. What is the problem you are having? More than likely I have had the same problem with my 75.
