Stroker clearance with endplay, safe measurements

Post by JBraxton »

Hello all, in the late stages of test fitting a 84mm stroker build, first time doing this. It's a new aluminum case, pre clearanced, with cb rods and arp bolts. The crank endplay isn't set at all yet, and depending on where I push the crank in and out, it binds. I'm wondering what an acceptable distance between the side of the rods and the case material is, as I'm wondering if I need to shave a bit more off the case. Also, can I effectively check the endplay of the crank without torquing the flywheel all the way down? Flush is flush, I can't imagine the torque spec effects the measurements. Thanks!

Push the crank towards the flywheel end. That, plus the end float clearance is the area it will live. You can also fit a pair of shims to check a loose fit.

If it binds with the cam fitted check the crank timing gear for bend teeth where the puller has removed it previously.
