Re: cv's
Several inches but I don't remember just how much and I (my-self) haven't played with the longer travel arms.
I did a trans conversion on a stock VW trans and I needed to run the bus CVs (a water-cooled V-6 engine being used), I documented the conversion somewhere. It wasn't hard but the half shafts also needed to be changed for the longer splines allowing the CVs to slide in and out more. The stub shaft needed to be upgraded to the bus stub shaft too.

I guess you would have to talk to the makers of the longer arms kit to see if the splines on the half-shafts used would handle the longer distances the different angles would require compared to what you are running now.

I have 944 brakes on the rear of my Super Beetle. 944 stubs are identical to IRS stubs in every way except for the CV itself, which is the magical 100mm. I've considered getting T181 flanges and going with 100mm inner and out CVs, just to make my setup just that closer to bullet proof. That said, I'll never have more than about 125-130hp and 150 lbs/ft of torque so I don't see the need to mess with swapping output flanges or figuring out what length axles I need, so I'm sticking with stock parts.
You guys with far more power, or more extreme CV angles have a lot more to worry about.

Sorry H20SB, but that is the next step in a build, e.g., going to the MAX!H2OSB wrote: βMon Apr 04, 2022 12:56 pm I have 944 brakes on the rear of my Super Beetle. 944 stubs are identical to IRS stubs in every way except for the CV itself, which is the magical 100mm. As I was building my bug, I had the "Go Big or Go Home" philosophy. I knew I was going to a bigger engine and an 091 trans, so I went straight to 930s with 3 x 3 trailing arms. I say, if you are happy with your current set up, run it until they break and then move up.
