72BajaBen Baja Rebuild Thread

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

looks good. I plan on using it as well. I used it on my 57 pickup on the underside of the cab and fender wells. Great stuff.

Yea it’s pretty awesome. I would 100% recommend it. You can get it in a tintable version so you can make it just about any color you want. I’m about 90% sure I’m going to spray the entire body with it.

Next is 5-7 days of curing. Then we make it a roller again. Front and rear suspension are going on. Then it’s on to body and cage I think.

I was going to use in on the interior and the underside of the body. Definitely good stuff.

When you go to make changes or repairs, how hard to scrape/grind off?

I’m sure it’s going to be a bitch. But I don’t think it’s any match for a 40 grit flap wheel or a nice twisted wire cup. Lol

That’s good and bad. I’ve got to take my buggy down and do some painting on it. Oklahoma humidity is just a wee bit more then Arizona.

Doesn't "yellow" mean your afraid? Bwahahah

I usually think of darker colors when one is out in the sun but then one car can be harder to see with the darker colors. Kind of a "Catch 22" isn't it. ("Situation in which an action has consequences which make it impossible to pursue that action.) A dictionary definition.

catch-22, catch 22

So while the bed liner cures I had another project I needed work on. Ive been putting it off for a few months since it was kinda buried in the back corner of my shop.

So here is my Shapeoko 3 CNC Router. Im upgrading the Z axis and spiondle.

I forgot to take a pic of what I started with.

But here is the machine torn apart.

Here is the new 1.5kW (~2hp) spindle. Its going to be a HUGE upgrade from the like 1/3 hp router.

Here the machine is all assembled again.

And my new desk. LOL

Today I need to solder the spindle connector and run a 220v line over to the machine. I'm waiting on a VGA to HDMI cable coming Monday before I can fire it up.

I also couldn't help myself. I assembled the front suspension. Shock tower is welded on.

Trans has also been cleaned up.

Not too bad for 1 days milling around the shop.

Ok...The barrel wasnt cutting it and I couldn't wait for the cable to come.

So 32" tv is the new monitor. The machine is fully up and running. I still need to test the laser module.

Ok...Back to my regularly scheduled project.

I got the rear arms mounted and the rotor and stubs in. Nothing is super tight yet. But its nice to see parts off the shelf.

I almost feel like I'm missing a spacer...but I dont have any spare parts in the bins. So thats something I'm going to look into.
