Newbie!

Hi all this is my second Superbeetle! First super was owned in the early 90's. I currently purchased a 74 Super thats been converted to a Baja and needs some TLC. I am replacing the dreaded areas up by the rear windows because this thing sat outside since 1992, in one parking spot. Needless to say, the motor was seized as well. Car had only 52,000 when parked and the rest of the body is pretty sound. Although it has a rough cut conversion on the rear that will need cleaning up. I have a 1600 replacement used engine in it for now so its moveable. Id like to put something with a little more pep in it. Whats everyones suggestions? Id like to keep the price of an engine under the $4,000 range???? Also have some wide rear wheels on this thing that are only using 4 lugs but has 5 holes, anyone familiar with this set up? Thanks in advance! Ill try to get some pics up as soon as i am done moving it on Wednesday.
