Re: Still playing with notchbacks
The engine cover got more bodywork today. I will have to break out a little bondo for the lower front mount area then more sealer. This car will look sooo much different.

Re: Still playing with notchbacks
I moved the car a bit more and in the light I found 7 bangs in the NOS trunk lid. So, hammer/dolly and much better! But... then I found one more. Doh!
I'm out of primer for now...
2nd picture shows the flake in the highlight color on the gauge cluster panel. I hope it shows a bit through the pearls...

Re: Still playing with notchbacks
What have I learned the 3 days of working on this NOS trunk lid? Unless they are stored in a padded box? NOS does not mean pristine, straight metal. However, verses several other lids I have or do own? It is pristine!
I am currently chase more dings. The 1st ones were overshadowing the one I have since found.

Re: Still playing with notchbacks
It isn't unusual for "NOS" to be left over things. out of tolerance material which can include +/- tolerance problems and/or flaws and that doesn't cover everything that can go wrong either.

This one was shipped with no protection, but the price was more than right.

Started working on mixing the old hood with the louvres... then I have to cut the hole, flange the insert and body work it...

Late advice: don't make the corners of the cutout and the new piece sharp, give them a radius. Even when the new piece is welded in cracking of the join can from different angles of loading can still happen.

I will be rounding everything. It was just easier to cut it square to get it out.

Crunchy sucks.
Good call.
Good call.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Been creating a flange on the panel to minimize bodywork on the hood. Next, I have to snadblast the piece to remove some old bondo between some louvres...

Re: Still playing with notchbacks
On the prior post, you can see how rough the louvre area was. So, today I sandblasted the piece not knowing what I would find.
Pre blast
In process
After blast in raw metal
In primer sealer
I am pleased with the result!

Building the damaged area of rocker. I did not realize how different eash end of the piece would be in 6" of length. I still have to hammer for a little after it is
tack welded into place.

How do you push out a low area in a curved area without hammer marks? So I looked around and spied a Little League baseball. Firm, but with give and a leather cover...
It worked great! Woot!
