Do heater boxes for T1 conversion exist?

Hey guys,

I have seen some people convert them themselves, but does anyone sell T4 heater boxes to be used in T1 conversions? Tbh, it just seems like the path of least resistance in terms of keeping heat if it does exist, so I figured I would ask

May not be the answer your looking for but the Chinese diesel heaters are cheap and are easy to hook up, I have one in my bug and it kicks ass!(I also can't fit heater boxes though due to my air ride and engine size)

Yah. Plan is a gas heater. Just didn't know if heater boxes were an option to just buy since it would make everything much easier

You can buy 411 /2 (as in Type4) heat exchangers (in Europe certainly) and shorten them. However the type4 used the heat exchanger as a “pre-heat” so the boxes have no fins and do not provide as much heat as the bus items. The type4 used a petrol heater as the main source.

They are also not cheap.

Here it is dangerboy, I cut the positive wire that's connected to the battery and put a relay and switch in line and connected a 12v inkbird thermostat controller for the bilge pump fan for some extra flow

past the flexible hose I ran some hot tub tubing to the floor and defrost vents and plugged the stock inlets from under the car. I honestly could have used a 2k heater instead of the advertised 8k unit but I got it for too good of a deal to pass up

I made mine when I did the conversion.
Used and oxy shortened the alloy fins and then The pipes to make it fit in the bug. The alloy fins were then covered in a stainless sheet rolled over and an inlet and out let each end was added.

That should work well. There were always type 411 heater boxes cut up to fit the type 1 conversion. The heat exchange is about the same with the combination of the lovely fumes from the engine bay. A 914 fan/blower does help get the air in at a better volume. Maybe some 914 boxes can be customized / shortened since the heat exchange area seems bigger closer to the motor.

Hi Guys,
Being the first T-4 upright conversion using T-1 parts back in 1992, first used a 411 gas heater. Hated it, too much heat and the exhaust fumes were killing me. Sold it.
Here is my Cheap and easy way. I bought a portable eclectic heater from eBay and seeing I had an extra 12 battery I kept a charge on, just carried it out to the bug when I needed it. Seeing the bug is well sealed keep it on low and it was all I needed. May and Hour of run time, but rarely did I do long trips.. The heaters run about $35 bucks

BTW that engine is the same engine that is in my car today, never did a valve job or split the case. Has around 300,000 miles. 1989 to now. My manual came out in 1992.
