Adjusting Cargo Trailer Tailgate
I’m trying to adjust the swing up rear door on my Cargo trailer. The door goes all the way down then comes up even with the trailer bed. It will stay down with a tire on it. Coming up it takes a bit to close the door. It has springs like a house Garage door. I’ve looked at YouTube for tutorials but nothing I saw on trailer doors. Any guidance on this?

Need pics to see what you have. With the current spring ( springs?) if you let a little off the spring so it sits on the ground, it will make it harder to lift. But if you let any off the spring, it may not maintain proper tension when closed. Any extra weight added to the door? As little as 10 pounds can affect a doors balance. Wire diameter, spring i.d., spring length determine the working load of a spring. On a sectional door, the door should balance itself at about 1/2 of the way open. Did your door ever balance like that? Would not be the first time I saw a spring that broke near the end and somebody remove the short piece and reassemble shorter, and act like you describe.

I think what "cbeck" said is correct. I thought I had deleted this post but somehow I guess I sent it (fell asleep"
). Sorry!
If the system you have is what I think it might be call a trailer dealer for info. I have never had one if these but I have heard of them before.

Re: Adjusting Cargo Trailer Tailgate
I have a friend with a cargo trailer he hauls his VW's in and was having issues with the rear door look to see if the hinges are seized to both sides of the door he was able to move it but the rear bumper was bending for some of the movement and I ended up cutting lengthwise through the hinge to open it up and get it turning and add some support to the rear bumper.

I’ll get some pics, it’s back in storage. I know it isn’t the hinges, I’ll get pics. Thanks.
