2.8-4 N.A. converted to TURBO

Post by Bills914-4 »

Time to share what I did with the parts I purchased to turbo a 914-4 , early last year I acquired some parts to finally
install a turbo on 914-4 , I'm in the process of building a 2.5 turbo but it's not ready , so I decided to fabricate and install
the parts on my 2.8 twinplug 10.7 c.r. type4 that is already in my 914 , here's is my build thread from years ago, it is now,
Gen.3 with AA long barrels I had Ionic plasma coated inside for less wear ,& new pistons with swaintech coatings, I couldn't
quiet the used aria's pistons,

Here's a few pictures from my journey :)

Very Nice!!!!

I remember seeing the engine run on the stand somehow......Maybe Mario posted it or something.
That must be quite the ride with turbo..........All you need is an intercooler and about 12 lbs. more boost.....  8)
Kidding...that thing probably hauls **s!!!!!

Thank you , Mario set-up my Megasquirt2-Sequential fuel & Ign. ,then posted a video I sent him :) , I've seen the boost gauge
hit 12lbs. made me a little uneasy considering it has 10.7 c.r. , another time in beginning test run the hose was off the wastegate
(ran like a ) lets just say it scared me  , before I realized the hose was off , I did a compression test right away afterwards
everything was good  , thank God,

I took one spring out of the wastegate theoretically it should be limited to about 7 lbs. I would think, I feel the programmable
water/meth is what helps it , along with twin plugs & 20 degrees max timing ?

this system is programmable ,so I can add more here and their ? still learning as I go :)

I'm interested. You might take top honors for compression/boost around here.

Did you buy a new baking pan or steal your wife's good one for the turbo cover????  8)

What kind of intake temps are you seeing at cruise and when on boost???

No E85 yet ( there is a station 2 blocks from house that sells it :) ) , I'm building another motor 2.5 ( 80mm x 100mm) that I want
to run as much as 20 lbs boost  , it will probably run E85 ? & a intercooler , I'm off work because of covid-19 , so I started
working on it again ,
www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=150581

the bullet muffler helps some , but I do need to quiet it some more , I towed (car dolly) it to N. Carolina last September to event
called Okteenerfest 914 gathering about 50 914 cars showed , we drove the back roads up their, one the of the guy's running behind me was telling me his wife thought my car was a little loud :) , we were running thru the twisties in the canyon , my car starts spooling around 3800 rpm ,between that and the little muffler, along with the 5800-6000 rpm gear changes , it might be a little loud following behind  ,

I have to laugh also , she was throwing it out , I thought it was usable for the top of the bench to trow stuff in , so me being kind
of a hoarder  , saved it , it was on the bench (full of stuff) when I was trying to come up with an idea on how to cover the
turbo , first thought was to bend up something , then I saw the pan :?: , , I have 2 coverings of thermal adhesive tape on the under side along with a heat shield between the exhaust and the trunk floor ,it was getting warm in the trunk , I also added 2 fans to exhaust the air out of the trunk , I also added one more nozzle smaller in the charge tube right after the turbo , to help with air temps , one of the fans has adjustable thermoswitch , I haven't seen the temps go over 130 , but I haven't driven it in the
Miami summer yet , we will see soon , the weather is already getting hot here , I haven't driven since before Chritsmas , I'm getting itchy to go for a drive ,
