What size exhaust for T3/T4 on2276?

I just ordered a Garrett T3/T4 60 trim with .48 AR turbine housing for my 2276 off road buggy, RPM will be limited to 5500. I am trying to decide if 2.5" exhaust pipe and resonator will be adequate ( lighter, less weight to support) or is 3" necessary? Boost will be limited to 8lbs(90% of the time) with a max of 15lbs on rare occasions. What are your opinions/experiences?

what's the size of the outlet on the Garrett?
I just checked my China Copy's and their both 2 1/2

A .48 is already fairly small. Id go with 3", any smaller would restrict it even more and sacrifice top end.

Thanks for the input, I should have the turbo here Monday then can measure. The AR of .48 was not my first choice(actually wanted .63) but was too good of a deal to pass up. If it spools too soon then I could replace the turbine housing if need be. I am hoping that it will not build boost until 3500 RPM in 2nd gear but things are so much different off road, when climbing hills we introduce a large load that would be difficult to duplicate on the street. I am looking for a V band turbine outlet so muffler replacement is simple, they only last 2 seasons before getting burnt out and louder.

I ran 2.5 on mine. With both the .63 and. 48 housings. Up to 29psi. You'll be just fine with 2.5.

I would think the choice of muffler would be a bigger factor than the size of the pipe.

Chip got me thinkin ,, what my dump pip diameter is ,so I braved 19* and all of 'six' steps to a even more frigide garage yepper it's only 2 1/2
and I also used the same one On both of my turboed motor's

Mike, thanks for braving the cold. Chip, appreciate your input. I plan to use a Totalflow 644 mini muffler that appears to have very little restriction. Looks like 2.5" exhaust is what I will be using.

I bought one of those too. I got mine in 2.5" but my exhaust is 3" now. Need to order some 2.5" bends to make it how I want it still.

2.5" will be great. That is what my 2276 had with the .48 turbine.

After looking at many 5 bolt outlet flanges, it was interesting to see that some of them had holes as small as 2 inch but used a 3 inch V band. I finally found one with a 2.5 inch hole and ordered my own V band parts to have decent flow.

3" downpipe will flow a lot more without creating back pressure.

2,5" will do the job
