Here is the piece that bent. We had a little stress behind it.
Here is where I am at now. I’m calling it good, as far as straight. Have to zoom in past the Jack.

Re: Going Honda
My Honda does that sometimes. When you starve the oil pick-up there's some air bubbles or pockets that run through the VTEC solenoid manifold and it kicks it into limp mode. Just a quick flip of the ignition switch fixes it. Also check your oil screen behind the oil filter housing... Bet there will be gunk in it. Any small restrictions love to lick it into limp mode!Leatherneck wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 2:50 pm Here is a vid of it going limp mode at 3k vice the 2 K.

Re: Going Honda
It is crazy what can slow this engine down, in my case it was a connection that wasn’t pushed all the way in. Took it for a ride today, VTec and all. Good googley moogely that is one sweet smooth ride. A steady fast gain on speed then a kick in the butt when VTec kicks in. Woowza

Re: Going Honda
While I had some time I put the correct air cleaner on it.
The stock starter was good on the VW, on the Honda it was not so much. So Hi-torque starter was installed. Big difference.

Re: Going Honda
Glad you are enjoying the engine swap. FWIW, the insulation on my Hi-torque starter started peeling off after a few months, exposing the bare wire as a potential short when I start the engine. Fortunately, (and miraculously), the bare wire is not near anything on my rig to short out when I start the engine, but I'd suggest you keep a a sharp eye on it.

That pic of the weld you posted looks really good. You should try using anti-splatter spray, though. Makes it much cleaner and much easier to knock those weld berries off.

Re: Going Honda
Leather ran it in a race not too long ago, might be in another thread.
I'm still using a vw gear reduction starter, 9 tooth from a tdi or vr6 automatic, early-mid 2000s vintage
Takes a couple minutes with a rattail file to get the bolt holes in the right place, but it cranks my new-2-me 49k 10.5:1 cr 3.6l subaru in my vanagon at ~500rpm, sounds as fast as a compression test with no plugs...essentially same speed as a low compression 1.8l t4... 12 new ex seats, proper 3 angle valve job, excellent compression...starter doesn't care. (ex seats were badly pitted, common Subaru thing apparently)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Buggy is doing great, 1000 miles on it and it runs like a dog who touched an electrical fence.
I do have some noise coming from the transmission strange noise I am trying to locate. Don’t think axles but close to it. When you lay on the gas the engine wakes up and screams.
