Going Honda

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

To paraphrase "Murphy's Law": Anything that can go wrong will go wrong and usually at the most inopportune time.

At least you are getting somewhere where I am not.

And we got the job done. BTW the ground is helping. The first turn of the key is slow but after that it spins like normal. Will replace the battery, I’m sure that will help.

Lee, on this build that quote is for sure true. But we got lucky too.

If you so search on luck you get quite a few positive and negative quotes on it but I picked up somewhere (a long time ago) that "luck is what you make of it".

Be neat, be tidy and keep your eyes open looking for places where luck is hiding.

The throttle body I had had no MAP sensor on it because the previous guys had really Frankensteined it. So looking for a sensor was just about pointless. Denny said let’s go junkyard shopping. Went to Needles junkyard the only V6 Honda they had was off limits so took one off of a 2.3 4cyl. Guy said it wouldn’t work, Denny said we are tryin it. $10 for the used $69 at the cheapest parts house and Honda at $175 and a week out. We got lucky and it worked.

I cleaned up the ground, haven’t added the other engine ground yet but before I disconnect the ECU it spun a lot faster. I ordered that battery, posts and hold down so that should also help the starting. Does anybody know the hp or kw of a stock 091 starter?

Lol, when I chirped the tires that was after the clutch was let out and gave it a little gas 🤩. Hopefully this weekend will take it out in the desert. 😎

Leather, I don't know the HP of the starter but the bus setup required battery is a bigger healthier unit. I had problems battery problems with my buggy once and I went down to the battery place and the guy said that the bus trans/starter demanded a different battery. I bought one and haven't had problems since. I do keep it on a mini-charger also.
