Bit of Blue on over run

Post by GARRICK.CLARK »

Hi Guys.
Started my motor today after a couple months sat.
I notice a bit of blue on the over run. Like if I give it a quick stationary rev I can see the blue out the pipe on over run.
Guides are low mileage to be fair.
I'm thinking its the twice honed cylinders.
Maybe its turbo related.
Not what I want to see but don't think its bad enough to fix yet.
Would ya look into it or leave it till it gets worse.
I suppose this is to be expected when the power goes high. The more horses you have the less they last.

I wouldn't sweat it much yet. A leak down test should tell you all you need to know though.

Thanks Buguy. Its one of them ,after loads of work getting to were we are today with are motors then. Seeing things like a bit of blue out the pipe it kinda pxxxes me off a bit.

A leak down tester is something I must get. Maybe her indoors will get me one for Christmas.

My engine puffs a pretty good blue cloud when I start it after a drive and it is still warm.......sometimes embarrassing but it doesn't burn any oil to speak of.
I might use a 1/2 quart in 4000-4500 miles.
I wouldn't worry about it.....unless it fouls the plugs or you get detonation because of it.

You might verify that your drain is in good order. No kinks etc..

Ok thanks guys , I'm thinking a bit of blue coming from the cylinders is a slight advantage as we all no that a tight piston in a cylinder is a bad thing. it causes multi pull issues including semi seizure, increased friction causing more heat /less power etc.
I'll check the drain pipe in morning. Maybe the oil level is higher than the drain inlet to the sump and backing up the oil.
Dare I say it.
I'm running 20/50

Haha! Nope! You are the one that inspired me to change my drain from the 1/2 valve cover to the 3/4. Not sure why I ever thought running it way to the other side was a good idea in the first place!
I started with this:

And then with the drain off and moved to the 1/2 side after the vid
