Need help understanding Excel enrichment

Post by vwi_dduvall »

Now that I have finally worked out most all the bugs on my 72 SB I have been driving it and put a few hundred miles on it driving to work and back.

One thing that I am still having is a lean spot when shifting gears its more noticeable when the throttle goes fully closed and back to some open position after the shift has completed.

I have tried going more on the MAP side of the adjusting but have seen no noticeable change currently its set to balanced between the two.

If anyone has a good doc or site that could help, and I have read the Megasquirt sites, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks,
Daniel Du Vall

Check to see if you have "Overrun fuel cut" on. It might be set too sensitive and need to be adjusted or turned off.
It is in the fuel settings tab.

What it does is cut fuel when slowing down and usually has a certain amount of delay. Yours could be set too sensitive.
Watch the map in the high vacuum areas and bump up the fuel a little.

You could also set an AFR table and then turn on EGO while running a log. That will show you where its adding fuel to keep the afr's in check down low.

Not positive if that is the correct way but I have done it that way for testing.

Just "Save As" first so you can go back if it doesn't improve it....... :| :)

What MS are you using? 3?
You can set it to accel pump style in the settings. It's pretty simple. Not much to tune.

Thanks, for the replies so far and sorry should have said I have an MS3X.
One thing I did check was the "Overrun fuel cut" Will have to try the ARF table thing mentioned.

I have see that accel pump option but have been trying to stick with the documentation that recommends to use the "Time-based Accel"
But it is an option to try out.

I just watched a youtube video on the 2014 megameet and they covered the accel setting.

I'll see if I can find the link.

Mario recommended the accel pump method to me when I was going through similar difficulties. It's simple, it works pretty well, no need to invent the wheel.

Very Instructive...can't wait to get home and try it on my system. Although I don't recall stumbles on mine maybe there is room for betterment on it. :D

OK the TPS threshold change made a huge difference. I guess it was not even getting any enrichment as the TPS threshold was at 100 and from what I understood from the YouTube it needs to be much lower 100 was basicly AE off so I went to 15 like talked about and will probably have to bump it up some as its now kicking in to much. Also now its too rich on the accel seeing a huge dip in the AFR graph major difference from the huge lean spike I was getting. Any how thanks y'all for the pointers at least now I can see its doing something even if it is still not quite right. Should have brought my laptop to work duh. Guess will have to get it when I get home. Sure would be nice if Shadow Dash was able to make changes :-(

I have it but hate to say I am still wrapping my head around all its config. I need a better device to run it I think as my ancient HTC EVO 4G is showing its age I have a ASUS Epad but its also a bit old. Money for a new one is out of reach at the moment as the house is demanding it all :-|
I will figure it out it's what I do for a living ;-) But am in the very early stages.

Am actually running the factory injection system that came on the type3. Well everything but the ECU and all that other analog stuff they had with the addition of the O2 and Bosch TPS oh and LS2 coils.

I'm running 5-6 year old Thinkpads scored off Craigslist and ebay.

Bullet proof, cheap and plenty fast enough, can even run Win10 if you desire.

I have an X300 and an X200 tablet, but a T410S is a very nice one gen newer unit that is really nice, and can be set up with two drives.

I even have android-x86 on mine...
Works great with MSdroid or Shadowdash, or even run tunderstudio on Linux under Android if you are feeling a bit adventurous.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
