1776 BUILD
got myself a t1 1600tp thats been cut for 90.5 barrels (1776)
have a set of kadrons already, do i use these or a 30 pict 3? got both setups.
what cam shall i use? stock or? its going in a earlybay not looking for speed just usable reliable power, torque,
do i bother with full flow? use stock rockers? stock springs?
dont want to spend alot but if its apart i wanna do it right

kads.
Engle W100 cam.
In a bus, full flow with a external filter and electric fan.
stock or high rev single springs.
Simple and reliable!

Looks like it. Over the years there've been other registers nearly as big, but 98mm is the classic 92 size, which was used when thickwall 90.5s were introduced ~35 years ago.

Not for a W100 over single HD springs.lil_azza wrote:Do i go straight cut cam gear or?

Re: 1776 BUILD
With helical gears a certain amount of torque is converted to axial force because of the angle that the gears are cut. As spring pressures and lift go up with more radical cams that force also rises.
Straight-cut gears reduce or eliminate that axial force on the cam. And they make noise.

Re: 1776 BUILD
The W100 is pretty mild and doesn't really demand any valvetrain upgrades, but personally I would run HD single springs (nuthin' fancy, just an inexpensive "entry-level" set from Bugpack or CBPerformance) and double thrust bearings. These days you can buy DT sets off the shelf. Inspect the thrust surfaces of the camshaft - if they're porous and rough, they're going to chew up the thrust bearings quickly...you're actually better off sanding them smooth and increasing the initial endplay; in the long run the bearings will last longer.
With the Kadrons and unported heads you probably won't be buzzing it hard enough to encounter problems with the stock rockeram springclips, but IMO it would be worth it to invest in some "solid" shafts for peace of mind. They can take a while to set up properly, though, so if you aren't the assiduous type don't bother (just carry a spare stock rockershaft in a Baggie in your roadbox).

The Berg solid shafts are gems, with a center spacer which can be locked in place...but a cheaper set with "floating" center spacer will do just fine in all but the most extreme of applications - just set them up with 1½-2 times the combined intake endfloat.

Yes. Solid rocker shafts are a good idea. I broke a clip under a very mild cam and singles. I wasn't running a screen at the time. Broke the pump drive tang. Cost me an engine.

Re: 1776 BUILD
The thickwall 92s are also an excellent Bus option, they can be had in the 92mm case register, heads must be cut for 94mm.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Usually because they make "cool" noises.lil_azza wrote:Ok thanks,

A noted, wild cam/spring setups can use them for good reason.
