The third digit, 9, means 1969.

From that VIN I'd say you have an early `69 (built in Aug `68) which predated the US mandate for a windshield VIN tag and B-pillar sticker - so if you intend to do a body swap and title it by the pan VIN the only matching body tag needed would be the one in the trunk*. It should have the late/larger tierod ends and inner wheel bearings, if nobody's changed the beam or spindle(s)...that change was made in mid`68. It probably was originally equipped with the "1968" 3-switch master cylinder (long since obsolete) but the newer 113 611 015BD 2-switch M/C fits fine.

Lower door hinges should be no problem since `56-`79 will interchange. LH lower is 111 831 411D (Google it to seek someone who has them in stock)
The LH upper will be more challenging; I know of nobody making reproductions. However, you can build one using a `68-`79 (111 831 401G) - press out the hingepin/press in the early 111 857 514 pin w/mirror mount.

*Technically it's a federal offense to alter VINs but local enforcement is generally lax - but always be sure that you could prove legal ownership of the components if it ever became an issue.

It may be easier to swap complete doors vs mucking with the hinges and pins.

wow thx guys that was fast

i got the pan for free---pulled it out of a blackberry patch---lol
it had a baja body on it ---full fiber glass front end --and cut back--plus cut top to be a full time vert --

body is long gone ---sold it for $50
and put the pan in my fathers barn---just pulled it out few months back to use on my 60
which i lost 75% of the parts when we got hit by a tornado
lost doors etc
shell was saved bc it was being bead blasted

so least to say

im starting over --trying to find parts---no need to restore to 100% 1960 spec
just make a nice bug

got 2 --1960 doors from cali ---but no hinges

so going by this vin

it looks like JUly of 1969

119-1-033-844

Jun 119 1 040 194
July 119 1 093 704

so am i right to say its a 69??

also if i needed to order bearings stc --just get 69??

also first time with the double spring plates and short arms --any pros to them??

Blackberry patch. Did you get at title with it? The title goes with the pan on older cars. Don't get too invested in it if you don't have paperwork.

As I said above, so long as nobody put on any backdated front suspension parts you'll be fine ordering "1969" parts. A quick (and 99.9% reliable) way to tell is by the wrench size of the tierod end nuts - if they're 19mm, the spindles and Pitman arm are virtually certain to be "late", as in `69.

I agree with Steve, It'd be wise to check with a licensing agent before you invest much time or money in the project. At the very least you should have the VIN checked against the "hot sheet" to be certain that it isn't stolen goods which would end up being confiscated.
