1.9 DG

Post by jackstraw »

Here is a link to a CL ad in my area.

If this is an unmolested DG, it should have potential?

The price is right. The ad will disappear in a week. But it has been advertised before. No on is taking it.

Is there not interest in the DG pistons?

From the photos its most likely an early 'Pre B' 1.9, as it has the early exhaust and water pump, and the old type thrust bearing, the later and desirable B case 1.9 dimensions are the same as the 2.1 versions with 3 piece no 1 main and raised case roof, its still usable but bearings are harder to find.

Does anyone think that the ~10:1 DG could be done with some cam, Digijet, and a tencent exhaust as a Vanagon engine?
I know this is pretty broad but a cam with some spec's in the >225* @ .050 should help tame it some. But I don't want the rpm band to exceed the factory FI limits
The exhaust should help expel some gases. And with Dijijet or even L-Jet, the ignition could have some timing pulled out
to help with ping.

This same DG is up for sale again and I've been thinking about picking it up just for the pistons.

It does seem that 1.9 bearings are scarce. Would the 1.9 crank work in a 2.1 case using 2.1 bearings? I don't know if the journals are different between the two. I guess one could consider this destroking the 2.1 and up the CR.
Our '85 is running the 1.9 and I could/would use parts from it also

Sorry, Too much coffee too early
