Found the following: http://www.bughaus.com/type234.htm
Is it the same? Judging by the part# I'm going to say yes. But given their price one would be better with the following http://www.cbperformance.com/ProductDet ... tCode=2013 an a 009

Re: SVDA?
One should never put too much faith in the VW part numbers used by aftermarket sellers, but if you trust those the Bus Depot's is German and the Bughaus' is Mexican. Other than the country of origin and length of the condenser wire, they're essentially the same.

Aircooled.net sells the best SVDA dizzys. That is where I got mine over 14 years ago.udidwht wrote:Any available source/s for SVDA distributors. None of the less than stellar knock offs.

Aircooled.Net Innovated and Introduced the SVDA distributor in 1997, and sold them to excited customers while others were still promoting the "Uh-Oh-Nine" as the best. We have more experience with SVDA distributors on VW Engines than anyone in the World!

Both idle timing and static timing of 7.5 degrees BTDC is correct for the 009 centrifugal-advance distributor and most single-vacuum distributors (e.g., SVDA) on aircooled VW engines (vacuum hose disconnected and plugged on the single-vacuum distributor). There is some variation depending on the model year and the country -- emissions considerations and such.

We are having to face a sad reality regarding our previously well-received Aircooled.Net SVDA Distributors. We don't currently have any, and unfortunately, it is very possible that we will not be able to find any more of the Bosch distributor cores that we have used in the past to modify for use in specific carb applications. When VW of Mexico stopped manufacture of the old style Beetles, Bosch discontinued their manufacture of this compatible distributor. We have since been buying up any/all stock we could find, but our sources have been mostly depleted and we have been unable to procure more for approx the past 6 months.

Re: SVDA?
Bughaus is out of them. I'd imagine there would have to be someone/somewhere south of the border selling them.

Re: SVDA?
VW of Mexico stopped using them in the mid`80s (they went to a Hall-effect unit but I believe it's mechanical-advance-only)...probably better odds of finding one down there, but they haven't been produced for some time.
I picked one up at a swap meet - dug it out of a bucketful of random distributors...it was bare other than the canister but was in good mechanical condition. Paid $25 IIRC.
They were stock on all non-California `74 Beetles/Ghias/Things with 4-speed transmission so there're still some kicking around. Last week I found one in a VW trike I was considering purchasing...new canister, connected to manifold vacuum - a less ethical person might've offered to install an 009 in it for him in trade for the "malfunctioning" SVDA
