Hedrock's daily driver project

Hey guys... Not new to STF but new to the Type 1 forum. I have a project that I'm going to start and was looking for any and all input you guys have to offer. The goal for this car is to have it be as reliable and solid as possible. It doesn't have to have a ton of power... I just want to be able to use to drive to work (15 miles each way)and back. I would like to lower it a little bit maybe with some drop spindles and put a nice interior in it. First things first though I would like to see if any one could help identify what year it is. The vin # is in bad shape and is non ledge able. There are a few things that give clues but I don't know for sure.

1.No gas gauge in the dash but there is a cut out for one on the back side.
2. No grab handle on the pass side of the dash.
3. No fuse box cut out
4. Metal brake res. in front
5. Hood hinge prop. No springs
6. Metal tube for the speedo cable.
7. Found a light from the speedo in the floor and it didn't have a male spade. It uses a screw to pinch the wire instead.

Here are a few pics as well...

That is all of the pics I have now. If you need any others let me know.

Thank you for any and all input!

BTW... Here is my other VW ride...

Ok, you have the deep dish headlights, or so I like to call them, which puts it 1966 or earlier. As far as I know they switched to regular lights and 12 volts in 67. Give or take a year on that. Next thing I notice is the square rear window which gives us 1958, which I believe is when they switched from oval windows. So as much as I can see you're somewhere in between 58 and 66. With the metal brake reservoir I'm guessing around 62. Not much help, sorry. Looks like you've got plenty of work, but also plenty of opportunity to go your own path on this project.

Just did a search on the hood prop and I came up with this.

If that's accurate we can narrow it down quite a bit and my original guess wasn't even that far off. So it isn't an oval window or a split, but it does have a few interesting details. Hopefully it's as good of a shell as it looks on the pictures.

The smaller side windows make it a '58-'64. That's as far as I can tell.

No newer than a '60 with the metal brake fluid reservoir.

Does the dash layout narrow it down? It has a gas gauge hole. Small radio cutout. Speaker left of speedo (from drivers seat). Does it have the firewall hole to accommodate the extra gas lever?

I'm looking forward to this project since it's happening just a few miles away!!
