Just finished building another MS2-Extra ECU
Just loaded the the 3.2.4 firmware (My other MS2-Extra is 3.2.1) put it in my squareback and it fired right up but then as soon as the engine goes to run mode (as opposed to cranking) I get 0ms pw ... ? Im a bit confused as to what could cause this if anyone has any ideas would be great... meanwhile ill try a few things.
I loaded the msq from my other ecu to get all the tune settings and i have checked them and they all appear to be fine. tried making a new project and recalibrated all mt sensors but still 0pw in run mode.
Im thinking this has to be a software problem rather than hardware but ???

Zip up a log and msq, post.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: New MS2-Extra build no PW in run mode
I added the MSQ but dont have a datalog yet... Im going to reinstall the firmware tonight and see if that helps.
I loaded the 3.2.4 firmware with the boot jumper off first thing after finishing the build. was there anything else I should have installed first with the boot jumper on ? I can remember what I did last time.
Cheers

Basic settings>tach input/spark>number of coils: 1
You have a 36-1 wheel but a single coil on D14...(for distributor)
I'd need a log to really see what it's doing, but it needs to be wasted spark or COP if direct fired, edis has it's own special setup. Your current config is not sane.
Looks like you need to make another pass at the basic setup before firing it up.
The diagnostics work well, can fire your coils and rattle your injectors on demand.
Need complete info on your setup, direct fire, distributor or edis? if direct, COP or waste spark, what pins are you wired to drive the coils? (usually outer LEDS, forget #s atm)
I pretty much ran the alphas/betas the whole time I ran MS2extra, they have a LOT of bugs fixed (first) and IMHO worked better overall.(generally only the huge bug fixes get backported)
Distributor based setup is not well tested and has some gotchas.

Re: New MS2-Extra build no PW in run mode
nothing wrong with the spark and coil setup been running it like that for ages now .... not sure why everyone hates on my spark setup it gives just as accurate timing as anything else but requires no hardware mods to the stock engine. just to be clear im using a trigger wheel for crank input and direct firing a single stock coil. spark is then routed through the rotor button and cap to correct spark plug. it is simple and good system.
the problem I have is when the engine goes to run mode it is giving me 0ms for pW I have reloaded the firmware and will test it in a hour or so.

Re: New MS2-Extra build no PW in run mode
Cool.
Not hating the distributor setup, just be aware there can be issues, making/soldering on a much wider rotor tip is probably a good idea.
The code is also not as well tested, as most folk use the direct fire, but it's probably much better tested than the "distributor only" setup.
It's easy to command timing that the distributor literally cannot deliver due to rotor/cap alignment, which can get out of whack.
Ditching the rotor/cap and it's spark gaps and the long wires is the main reliability improvement direct fire offers.
Cuts down on electrical noise too.

Re: New MS2-Extra build no PW in run mode
all good,
there was some careful alignment of the rotor button. for example 5 deg is the lowest timing on my map so at about 0 the rotor starts to align with the cap I can go up to 50deg no probs
but on my new ecu i wired up sequential COP but I havnt made the cam sensor yet so I havnt installed the cam sensor jumpers either. but at least I have verified that the rest of the box works well now so I can proceed in a stepwise fashion.
Im also planning to set up launch control and EGT and oil pressure datalogging but will see how we go.
cheers
