rear disc caliper mount choices
What are my choices for purchased rear disc caliper mounts?
(Probably going to be Golf/plPassat/Jetta calipers)
And/or, does anyone know where a drawing exists so that I have an option to fab them myself?
Edit: IRS rear

I'll let you measure my setup if you want to make your own.
I'll even take the tire off for you
It's weld-on, but the measurements will be the same.
Working Sat again.
EMPI flogs some that look OK.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

If you and Pile can’t get together, air pressure a chunk or two of cardboard/card stock along with a Sharpie and a couple or rolls of masking tape should work. It’s not (too much anyway) rocket science. If you need bends, joggles or off-sets then a coat hanger or welding wire can help also.

Foggy, I am an old aircraft sheetmetal hand.
that means I am somewhat lazy.
I wa shoping that someone knew of a drawing around somewhere.
Really what I should do is take a caliper off of the new 914, and dismantle the bug, and whip out a proper mount. That way two of the cars here use common parts

Sorry, I retired out of the Aerospace drafting field; I did just that for a long time!

Yep, understood.
10 year of heavy structures, now in a backshop environment with an incredible machine shop and even aerospace welding.

I'm sure She Who Must Be Obeyed won't mid you borrowing the rear calipers off her new Jetta to try them for fit, right?

I'm taking Mon/Tues off before the fur really starts to fly again at work, I'll pull a pattern/dimensions.
I want to finish dual-circuting the brakes anyway, amongst other neglected projects.
Mind--- I'm using T3 hubs turned down to fit the 914 rotors ID.
If you turn down bug drums, the offset may differ.
(The T3 hubs are AFAICT steel+ much thicker, so probably much stronger if you can score some)
I know they sell CrMo versions but they $$hurt$.

Mama would positively poop a brick if I approached her new Passat with tools in hand.
although, she is about to hit 30k miles, and that means the free service is over, now it is mine to modify, err, maintain, yeah, thats the word.
Anyway, dims would be good, I will be machining a bolt on style adapter.

No, original Type 3 hubs are cast iron. The aftermarket Type 3 hubs that are made in Brazil are also cast iron, but by comparison, they are junk. The German ones are much stronger.Piledriver wrote:The T3 hubs are AFAICT steel+ much thicker, .....

I machined the stock 71 rear drums to make the hubs and bought from sharpbuild the mounts.
Passat 3b rear calipers work with the 914 disks .

Thank you for the correction.
Proves you can't even go by how it machines.

Not sure if there's room for them in the std 914 location, but I can have a look tomorrow.
They would be an excellent upgrade if they fit, esp the alloy version.
...Of course you would need tubular 914 trailing arms and super light wheels/tires to possibly notice the difference.

Do you know the piston diameters? Can you post a pic of these calipers?E_bug wrote: Passat 3b rear calipers work with the 914 disks .

Here are some good pics.

I welded a 14mm 1/2" socket to the bracket for a e-brake cable caliper end mount on mine, works peachy with the std ebrake cable.
Mine are for an Audi Cabriolet, 38mm, look identical.
