I'm posting his here because the parts involved have nothing to do with this being a trike and this section gets way more traffic,
My trike has a problem, the frame horns are rusty on the bottom center, the builder who was a dolt for using these rusty frame horns knew it was an issue he welded angle iron over the rust from the torsion tube out about 8-10 inches in addition he reinforced the engine mounting something like a t3 with auto tranny. but he didn't go out far enough with the angle iron and his welds look like dodo.
Doing research I have been impressed with what a few people have done to fix rusty frame horns one way was capping them with good frame horns, well I can't find any,
The next was taking tube like exhaust splitting it and capping the frame horn, hah...this is the way I want to do mine,
The problem is I do not have the time, life or health to tackle it right now on my driveway and I want to put a stop to the problem,
So anyone know a shop or a person in central Florida ( I'm in orlando ) who can handle this repair and not go crazy on their fees, anyone into building stuff this isn't too epic,
Many thanks!
Cheers,
P.

Whoever does it, you should consider installing the tubular CrMo frame horns from Berrien Buggy.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Not an auto trans, correct? You should take a look at the rear suspension/trans mount subassembly used on swingaxle Type IIIs - it's a separate piece that unbolts from the car. Many folks have used them as the basis for light-duty trailers, in fact. Could be the easiest solution to your problem would be to toss the rusty/patched crap and graft in one of these. Even if you want to run IRS suspension, it's not that big a deal to weld the requisite pivot points into a swingaxle III subassembly and convert it using the appropriate (stock, readily-available) pieces.

I assure you after building things ranging from vettes to kit cars to all kinds of customs over the past 40 years "IF" I do or oversee something it isn't "crap" but sadly I do see lots out there that is.Marc wrote:Not an auto trans, correct? I didn't know that about the t3 and it would be an option if one could be found ( how rare are good ones? ) but rather than the hodgepodge of turning a stock swing into a stock IRS this swap would be a great excuse to ditch the stock trailing arms and torsion bar and use one of the aftermarket set ups...
Now I'm right back at overkill and simply not needed on this trike, as it sits I could remove the frame horns and the engine and tranny would not go any place, IE t3 auto
This repair is basically for Aesthetics.
I'm thinking if I do the fitting any muffler shop could do the welding....

Sounds like a skid-plate would be enough to cover up the crap that's present...
