Yeah! Pretty exciting considering it's not finished yet but people get pretty enthusiastic about the project when they hear about it.

To be honest I have been so busy (work, travelling, finishing my 240Z) that I havent had much time to go through all the wiring and find out why there is no spark. I got a different bov to replace the plastic broken one, so theres that. Also got a bonnet vent andthe IC bracket modified to close the lid.

It's sort of a pain to resize everything for this site and I haven't been getting a lot of answers to my questions here so I haven't updated this as much as the GRM board to be honest. I'm getting back on the Ferrari more in June.

Found out the Subaru key has a chip in it and that's why the Immobilizer isn't working. I could have taped the key to the ecu and had it working. So I either need that key or a new ecu that comes with a key. Man that sucks that it went with the clip after I sold it figuring in 97 they didn't use them. So its progress though. Thanks to Todd and Subarugears for the insight. How in the world did I miss this??

So if anybody spots a 97 jdm sti ecu with a key for sale let me know.

Or if anybody knows if Subaru in the US can do something with it.

Some pictures of the ECU:

Hello from Sunny Athens Greece

This might work for you.!

You will have to virginise the eeprom immobilizer code in your ecu.
This is how its done on Denso units.

http://qcwo.com/technicaldomain/simple- ... eplacement.
Contact them , or do a lot of reading and search and you might find the way sub units reset.
This is the way oem jdms did it so i guess the theory is the same. I would contact the guys on my link. :D

Let us know what happened.

Geeze,...I would think the local Subie dealer could do something with this if you walked in with ecu in hand. People loose keys all the time. Maybe have some pics of what you're doing to get them interested and so they don't think you're just some punk thief trying to get a hot car going. But really, who would be going through that kind of trouble for a stolen '97 anyway?

But thanks for posting this anyway. I'm going to go home and take the key out of my donor before it goes down the road. Just in case.

People lose keys all the time but not to their 1997 RHD STI in America. I would imagine they have never really done anything with a turbo ECU of that vintage because 2002 is when turbo WRX's started here. Who knows, maybe they can. I'll bring the copy of the magazine and maybe they'll get excited about it and want to help out.

Looks like a scam website, I put my email address in the contact us form on the main page and then it changed and said it appears my email is invalid and showed somebody elses email address.

For toyota and lexus i can tell you that the dealer or a reputable locksmith can reset the ecu so the immobilizer will see the key in the ignition.
But they need a vehicle with an obd socket :D

Btw do you have the ring around the ignition switch that recognises the transponder key for the ecu?

Are you talking about the ignition cylinder the key goes into? If so then no.

Exactly what I was thinking, a little investment in psychology can pay off. After-all, car guys are car guys and can't help it. You might have to get past the dope at the service desk first though.

BTW - Where in the he!! did you find a RHD '97 STI in the states?

So it turns out that pre 2001 Subaru ECUs are not rewriteable so a dealer cant do it. Other ooptions are still trying to find another ECU or standalone.
