How much power will the Holset series turbo chargers support

Post by DORIGTT »

Building a 2.1L WBX and have found Holset's information somewhat difficult to decipher / wade through.

Basically, how much power will the HX30 and HX35 series turbos support?

Big question, it depends on the agenda for the motor, a 300 hp small responsive turbo will spank a big daddy on most occasions except full power shifting drag runs. its all in the planning, even the trans/ratios need careful planning and matching, a road car needs longer gears than a racer, but lag on a road car makes you wonder why you went with a turbo if you get it wrong. i had a UR Quattro road car boosted one time in the late 80's, lag city, it was so much nicer to drive before , i had it de boosted.

It's funny you mention 300 HP BBB!

I just purchased a 2.1 WBX to build up and I want tractable power in the upper 200-300 HP range. I want a flexible power plant like what I'm driving now (2012 200hp VW GLI and 280hp VR6 2012 Passat.

In know the WBX is the way to go, but I'm trying to put together the right combination to give me what I want.

You've turbo-charged these in the past. What was the drivability like with the power you developed?

That being said, I like what ppl are doing / reporting with the Holset line which is why I'm asking.

My agenda was racing, so WOT all the time, my racer went the best in the wet, turned down to about 285 hp when it was very lag free, up it to 20psi and 385hp it had lag to be honest, but as i mentioned, not a problem on the track, i swear by Garrett T3/04 for circuit racing even today. Fastback on here has done lots of road stuff at 300 plus hp, turbos like lots of lift not duration, but then more and more folk are running lairy cams with good results, but not for a street build, wassers need work to get any higher lift due to the spring deck being tight, longer valves or spring seats cut. search out fastys posts for good info.

Speaking of track use BBB, I'd like more info on your setup beyond some of what we've 'discussed' as I'm working the suspension setup / cage stuff now.
