hi,
i just got a 1971 super beetle. i am rebuilding the carb since its leaking but the carb has an adapter on it and says solex H30/31PICT. in my book it says that this car came with a 34PICT3.
is this a popular mod for the 1600 motor? or should i just find a 34?
carb question

Re: carb question
Find a 34. They put that adapter on it to run the carb they had.
The 34 will give you a little better performance. But you really need to read up
on the dreaded dead spot with the 34 and 009 dist. (assuming here that thats what you have)
You will have some tuning ahead.

Re: carb question
Using an early small pattern carburetor on a 1600/DP center section is very common. I like the 34 solexs, but at the same time wouldn't go through the effort unless the 30 was bad.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.
