volume screw vibrates closed

Post by landrocket »

1600 dp, stock solex carb. I had it running and idling beautifully, then one day it would not idle. I found the volume screw turned all the way in ( closed). Anyway, got it all running great and took it out today and after about 2 miles it would not idle again. Got it back home and noticed the volume screw somehow vibrated closed again? Am I missing an oring or something for friction? I removed the screw and there is one oring on there and it looks o.k. I might have just answered my own question, it has no friction when I just reinstalled it. Any advice is helpful anyway, thx, Ron

1) install a new oring. They take a set/get hard with age, wear with use.
If that doesn't help...
2) Press a bit of rubber hose over the screw after adjusting, that is also plugged/attached onto something else.

I had to do that on my 44 IDFs for the same reason, but conveniently those have two screws...
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I fixed it with a super thin wrap of electricians tape. Took it out for a long drive and it idles perfectly. I wrapped it just around the head, so it would not affect the oring or threads, just puts friction on the inside of the boss it rides in.
