Engine Stands - Assembly/Run

Post by Dale M. »

Anybody have a unique assembly or engine test run stand ??

Here is a few images on what I'm doing...

IN engine build mode....

Engine run mode...

Of course it is not done yet... some "detail's" to work out...

And the reason for wide "H" pattern in base legs...

Very Nice. Are you Selling these? or what? The only thing I'd like to see is better wheel mounts. I don't dig the single bolt version of wheels like that, although A VW engine doesn't weigh much. A Flat plate for wheels on each corner would be perfect.

I need one of them thar Stands (Of course with wheel mods...).... How much? and does it come with the "RUN MODE" parts?
I have found them completely missing more than once. - PILEDRIVER

Actually there are no wheels.... The holes are for leveling screws....

Selling them .. Well no.... Had not though about it.... IF you were local I could help you build one though....

Just posted pics to inspire some to improve their work shop and maybe get some people to post pics of theirs so it may inspire others ...

IF you want to "roll your own"... This is about best deal on "H" (or "U") base stand (ready made) ....

We've got a Krebsfer bench stand and a mobile stand from HF that was modified to accept an extra Krebsfer yoke...couple of 4x4 blocks and the 002 bellhousing for running. Then there's also Dad's ancient wooden engine stand:

Thanks Dale.... I actually have a Normal "T" style based Stand.... I was Super Liking the "RUN" part of your set-up. I have tried with no succes to build a run stand, simply because of lack fo tooling. It's been many years, and I may actually be able to do a much better try nowadays. I actually had cut the Starter mount ring section off a Transmission and tried .... Somehow I kept getting severe binding on the stand, so that got scrapped..... Maybe My age and Life Skills will give me a better chance building another. Although I understand the non-movement for a lot of reasons.... I just perfer to have a stand I can roll around. Still nice Work.

Hey... It's not to say that maybe someday I'll not have enlightenment and see the need for wheels..... It's just that I don't have any right now, and the pieces of metal had the leveling screws in them when I got them....

And I live in the "sticks", a run to town to pick up some cheap casters at HF, it's a 150 mile round trip...

Sorry Dan, I don't think it has enough bolts and wires. :P That is really nice looking and has a wide foot print; I wish I could justify one myself. Between yours and Dales, I am still thinking about it though.

dale m, i'm liking your stand,
although i've always had lots of fun, just running the motor on the floor, with the bell housing on the back, fire it up and step back :D

Well here is my stand with engine ..... Finally had a chance to use it....

Engine is actually running when pics were snapped....

Other than finding out the materials I used (salvaged from exercise machine) was a little light for application (will have to add some stiffener plates to longitudinal stringers) but design worked out really well.....

Long drawn out Discussion here....

And Lee has started a thread on his build....
