If you link pics from offsite storage they can be any size you like.
(Although reasonable size thumbnails are encouraged for those still on slow or pay by-the-byte connections)

If they have to be stored on the STF's server, 800x600 and 125kb is the limit.
This is a financial imperative, as this site is 100% user sponsored, no ads.

The server storage has already had to be upgraded a few times to allow room for uploaded pics.

I get this error when using the [img] BB code for images larger than 800px. Is this incorrect?

Last I heard was 800x600 max (either orientation) and 125kB for upload
Usually needs to be a jpg or png with compression, basically.

Last I tried, offsite image inlines [img] were not size limited, but perhaps we started enforcing netiquette for those of us that are bandwidth challenged.

Yeah, this was a link to an external JPG using [img] tag. Seems like links are also size limited.

This is an example image, hosted with FB. http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 0380_o.jpg. I get the 800px error.

Pile's right on. Inline images are limited in size, just as he specified. Rational is that the pic will show on almost everyone's screen as a whole image. Also conserves bandwidth and, particualrly, STF file storage which we pay for.

Few complaints. Bigger pics can be posted, but will show as a link.

Or ....... use any photo editor software to resize the pic to 800px wide (maintain aspect ratio) and post the smaller pic. Pretty easy.

Personally I like Picasa web albums. You can link directly to images,
and you can also pick what size image you want to use. They autosize images for you.
If you have an android phone, its super easy to upload new photos to new albums ect.

Not as easy as one-click upload the FB. I need to use different albums, but FB is so easy to use to keep track of my build. The newer images hosted on FB automatically resize to fit the viewer's screen, so they just upload the highest res and downsize on demand. This doesn't affect the actual size of the image though, just the displayed size, so it's still a hassle for slower connections. I get that.

I'm not complaining about the policy. I just wanted to be sure I was clear on it as inline images were giving that 800px error message. I was slightly confused. You guys cleared it up. thanks!
