Case saver problem in new AS 41

Post by D7 »

Just started work on my new AS 41 case with case savers and already have a problem. I can't thread two of the 8mm head studs in to the holes without cross threading them. When I first saw the way the case savers were cut on the case surface I figured there may be problem and sure enough there was. What irrates me is that it's a long weekend and when the stores do open I will have top drive a round trip of 70 miles to pick up an 8mm. thread cutter. It would take one minute for the factory just to start a stud in all the case savers to check if they are actually OK.

Actually I was so frosted at the problem that I blamed the factory when it was the people who bored the case to 90.5 who messed up the threads when the borer sliced through the tops of the case savers.
I really like the company who sold me the case so I don't wan't to name them.
Any know what pitch these 8mm threads are?

Thanks Marc. Just cleaned the case savers up. I remembered I had a tap this size I bought way back and forgot about.
