I have read a lot of posts saying people are using Cell phones with Megasquirt. Is this strictly for datalogging, or are there smart phones capable of tuning now-a-days? I just blew up my cell phone, and am in the market for a new one...

I think Mario posted a link to an app for the Iphone a while back that would run datalogging.

I believe both are only for logging and displaying at this time. I have both, just haven't spend any time playing with either of them yet

I have used Shadowlogger for awhile, still on v1.05 as the current version crashes on my phone, but it seems to depend on the phone.
I use a "free" HTC Hero CDMA with Cyanogenmod 7 loaded, it's sole purpose in life is as a datalogger, with an extended battery it goes all day.

You are limited to 10-15 fps or so in the logswith BT vs >50 fps using a good serial connection to a laptop.
(speed vary depending mostly on the BT in the phone)

It's fine for day to day logging or if you cannot use your laptop in the car due to lack of an in-car solid mount at a track.

It can log GPS and accelerometer in the logs if your phone supports it.

I have had issues with a few long logs not converting right, and you may need the registered version of TS to convert the frd files, although you can currently also do it online.

hit EFIanalytics, he sells a good class1 BT setup, or if you are very handy have a look at the $7 Ebay versions being flogged, IIRC someone here has that setup working

One of these days I'm going to get some old used android phone and have it as a dedicated "car phone", lol.

I loved cyanogenmod 7!! I had it on my car phone, a little huawei m835, but the bluetooth wasn't working for that software so i had to downgrade to cm6. Pile does the Hero support cm9?

With my phone hooked up with metro i opted for automatic log upload to shadowtuner.com and its been working like a charm. All i do is turn it on and click start logging. I have yet to try the newer version of shadowlogger.

BTW the 7-14$ bluetooth adapter is suuuper easy to mod to work; especially with ms1, cuz of the 9600 default baud rate.

The Hero-C was originally on the shortlist for CM9, but that has been put off basically due to understandable lack of time. (concentrating on more current/common/faster hardware)

There IS a work in progress bt working ICS port for the Hero-C from another dev team, google and see where it's at.

As I only use this for logging, (and I have no idea if Shadowlogger will run on ICS anyway) I'm not going to try it just yet, as CM7 works very well.

I have a Garminfone Android "in the mail" Being that I share my laptop amongst my family of 5, my turn with it doesn't come around too often. Was hoping there might be an app for this phone would have some sort of tuning capability. Guess I may just have to pony up for a ebay special laptop

Craigslist laptops are on sale right now too.
