How accurate are VDO oil temperature gauges?
Some say they are fairly accurate.
Others say they can be off by 40 to 50 degrees F.

The CHT (thermocouple) gauges are ~random accuracy, and are variable on cabin temperature, as the heads are not temperature compensated.

The oil temp gauges (thermistor based) are generally OK.

Is easy to test with boiling water.

Frequently, how the probe is mounted may give you a block temperature gauge instead of an oil temp gauge.
(Usually oil and block temp track reasonably due to the mag block, but the response is sloooow)
