019 flipping

Post by fusername »

I thought there were some threads on this recently but I couldn't find them. I just want to get a definitive answer here. The only way to run an 091 or 005 transmission backwards is by fopping the whole thing upside down and relocating the breather? Also what does this do to expected lifespan?

You really don't want to know what I have in mind for this setup, but first I need to iron out yet more wrinkles in my perverted logic
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

That's right. You can't just install the diff on the other side like a Type 1 trans.

It will outlast your attention span. What are you doing about the decreased ground clearance?
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

everything outlasts my attention span, and I am not sure I want to admit to what I am thinking about untill I am more commited to the idea, or i will get banned from this forum.

bumping this up again, still wondering about the life span for a rebuilt upside down 091. how many street miles do you think it could last? 5k, 50k?

A 914's 901 already has the diff flipped...trans came both ways from the factory (in 911s and 914s) and should last ~forever on the street in a light buggy.
5 speed too, usually.

About the same strength as a bus trans (perhaps even stronger) except for 1st
Viable if you are not drag racing (first was an add-on, very early 911 versions were 4 speeds)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

i think i remember hearing about these, 1st is a joke but the rest is solid on the 5spd, but the 4s are solid thru and thru?
might do some forum hunting, see if i can learn more and/or turn one up cheap.
