Stock box - straight axle - Type 4

Post by arry.auster »

Hi guys - I'm intending to use the set above, as the high (tall) 4th gear would best suit the European motorway driving that I'm planning.
So far I've straight axled and flipped the diff - the type 4 is a W lump uprated to 2lt with twin 38 Webers plus high lift cam - hopefully it should have enough power for the gearing???
My questions are though, the flywheel (225mm clutch) has more teeth than my old 1600 - which starter would be best/fit?
I've measured the primary shaft and that looks as though it will locate into the crankshaft bearing - will there be any other clearance problems?
I have purchased the CSB fibreglass upright fan kit - if I add a remote thermostatic fan oil cooler, can I dispense with the thermostat/flap/shroud system.

Thanks in anticipation Colin. - '65 double door panel van.
