I 'spoke' with a sales rep for ARP and they may be able to help us with some better studs.

i had raceware in that motor that i bought 7 years ago!! they probably dont make them any more :( stainless steel 220,000 psi strenth, standard size studs.

Fastback, why do you feel you have got to the limit????? have you snaped one???
, if you want to run bigger studs, i would run the 10mm new bugpack studs cut to size with helicoils in the case to go from 12-10mm

no not snapped one yet.. :)
but i like to up them.
got a quote from raceware , but they have stopped selling their Aerospace Quality studs to the wbx..as they don't cope with coolant.
hmm strange i think , would'nt it be better to actually use material that works in a car instead of a spaceship..

i have bought some helicoils 30mm longs and have looked at couple of 10mm options.
also considered stock type 1 10mm ones as i asume they are same 12.9 quality as the stock WBX'ones.
if i go for bugpack or something , the thing is that i need to buy 2 sets to get one complete for the WBX as the type 1 studs come in 9,3 and 4 studs.
ARP could also make a custom set but i havent got a price quote on a custom set from them

When you say size, you're referring to the length of stud correct?

Fasty, hows it going, my view is it wont break any studs, it will lift a head first, the limit will be a blow by warning/ coolant pressure blow off or similar, only the long upper bolts would be the weakest link, you could up rate just those four, but you MAY get interference on a big liner to attend to if you go very big on the bore . i have 10mm okrasa studs on 98mm bore and they clear ok, 100mm plus would be tight at the bottom liner water seal area. raceware just made an excuse, a small market is the real reason, no steel corrodes in the proper coolant. i run 100% , no water. ive seen rover k race engines suffer more with 'uprated' bolts pulling out, they where designed to have a controlled growth factor, and big bolts dont work on those. hope this helps.

yeah those stock ones are some tough bastards.. i found out when trying to remove them :)
my current setup is with stock jug's , bored to 96mm so 10mm will clear.
raceware could sell me if it was to a water to Air converted vanagon engine .. Oxyboxer.
but not if they were soaked in coolant.
the original 12.9 quality looks fine , even after 20 years.

anyone have contact info to bugpack? their website isn't up'n'running as it should.

Image Not a lot of room down there with the 98's, also the case nuts have to be clearanced on the shoulder for the bigger than stock liners. this one gave me grief with the deck measurements jumping around untill i sussed it.

nice
are those Oettinger cylinders?
how much bigger are they outside diameter and what cyl wall thickness do you have with those?
