Ok, not sure how people are going to feel about this but I hate, hate to mask before painting. Not only is it tedious, but trying to do it yourself is hard when the paper slides all over the place and doesn't line up, etc. To make it worse, I don't have a garage so I have to mask outside so the slightest breeze moves the paper on me, usually just as I get it lined up perfectly.
My son made a suggestion and it actually works. I've tried this so far with auto enamel and lacquer and it has worked really well with no problems.
Press and Seal kitchen wrap. Yeh, the stuff from Glad. I lay it across the glass from one side to the other. Because of what it is, it sticks to the window and stays in place so I can run tape around the outside edge. Breezes don't bother it at all. I overlap it on bigger windows and seal the seam with tape. It comes off without any residue, wads up in a much smaller ball than paper and doesn't beed through.

Don,
Make a friend in any institutional kitchen, you can get a roll big enough to cover ALL your cars for the price of a six pack.
