painted my daily driver 67 about three years back, now it's time to repaint.. door dings, rock chips etc are no biggie..and i plan on getting another hood that fits better.
But heres my problem..the front fenders are og 67 only so i really don't want to go aftermarket, and i can't seem to keep them from cracking. The car has been hit in the front before, so they are both tweaked some .. I welded them both where they had cracked on the lip at the top of the fender, and since they have cracked in the same spot. I was thinking about bending a piece of 3/8 rod about 8 inches long and welding it inside the fender lip to reinforce the area.. any ideas?
You can see the crack in this pic, the other side is closer to the top about 3 or 4 inches.

The rolled edge is what gives it its strength. If it is kinked they will keep breaking. Welding a section of tube or rod will work but won't win you any trophies at shows. I try to recreate the roll in the lip for nice cars.

The car was hit in the left front and repaired long before i bought it.. a body guy told me that the front needs to be pulled to the left some on a frame rack. would this help keep the fenders from tweaking? seems like when i bolted them back up last they bowed some right where they cracked. I've seen this on alot of bugs that took a front end hit.

once we get the car on the rack, how do you chain up the front to pull it back straight? I thought about making some heavy flat bars to bolt where the bumper mounts and pulling them..
