I've got several hub caps. For years I used them to store nuts and bolts. But I don't have four of any one type. The Photo shows two kinds. I can't get the loose one to pop onto the wheel. I'm afraid of denting it. The other one popped onto the wheel without much effort. They measure the same size, a bit under 10 inches. Do I just hit it harder?
Interesting. It looks like I could put the '66-'67 caps on my '74 Thing with wide 5s. I like the flatter cap look. I tried some from a '70's 4 lug bug, but they don't fit correctly. So do you think I should look for '66-'67s ?
It's a 1967 body on a 1973 chassis and suspension. The flatter caps fit well on my 4-lug wheels. But I don't understand why you want hubcaps of any sort on a Thing.
The domed caps are like the ones used on pre-66 Bugs and pre-`71 Buses, they're held on by spring clips riveted to the rims. The flatter `66/`67 (and 5-lug Type III IIRC) have that extra flange around the outside because it engages inward-facing bumps on the rims, which Thing rims don't have. I've never tried cramming the `66/`67 caps over springclips, they might fit - but go easy, if the fit is too tight you'll break the clips and they're no fun to replace.
