Heating...!

Post by Ridge »

hi folks!

My problem is that at starting, the engine turns great. All the power is available for about 10minutes or 15miles running.

But afterwards, the temp goes high, and only about 30% of the power is available. The engine doesn't though show any problem of iddling but if it comes to stop or tuned off,it would never start again untill temperatures are gone (about 1 or 2 hours).

The engine was just slightly tuned: 2 double 36IDF,flat 94mm cylinder kits,0.430x278° camshaft.
The rest was held stock but new.

I've bought a new germany engine block that I didn't still use.
This is the only thing I didn't replace.

Would it solve my problem if I put down the engine and use this one?
or is the problem somewhere else?

thanks for any helps!

Salut Ridge!

Maybe you would do better to post this in The Type 4rum they get a little bit more traffic through there and they specialise in type 4 engine related problems...?

Out of interest though and in an effort to diagnose the problem, what temperature are you reading? Is it engine oil or cylinder head temperature? How hot does it get before you start noticing a loss of power?

Could something in the engine compartment be getting hot, expanding and causing a vacuum leak?

Bonne chance!!

Once the engine is hot and not running right does it appear to have normal compression. When you crank it over does it crank overly fast? What is your valve clearance when hot. If it is zero you have a problem.

If you are running hydraulic lifters do you have the correct valve springs installed.
