CWrisley's Baja
Hello all. For those of you who dont know me, Im Chris. Some of you know me from "the other VW forum".
Anyways, thought Id give you a look into my build. The pics are a quick catch up since this build is about one year old now.
1970 Baja picked up super cheap. Its got a 1915 with an Engle cam, single 40 weber spinnin' a t1 trans. Cage is a six pointer, gonna be replaced hopefully within the year. BJ front end with a 1/4" cut 'n turn.
Thats basically as it sits now, but heres the pics of the build starting from day 1. Enjoy!!
So, let me know what you think, questions, or suggestions. Im still new to this whole baja thing, so its a learning process!!
The plans list: mount my seats, get motor and tranny back in it (bent frame horn issue), finish wiring, bend a bumper, and mount a fuel cell.

The frame horns arent too bad off, so Im gonna attempt to fix 'em. The right side horn is bent down (rear ended maybe?), so with a little leverage and a lotta muscle, should work out.Leatherneck wrote:Pretty clean looking Baja minor surface rust but seems pretty straight. How bad are the frame horns bent? Plans to fix or replace? Nice welds on the cut and turn, what shocks do you plan on using?
The welds are compliments of motorbreath, Id like to say their mine, but their not.
The shocks are KYB's all around right now and will stay until the coilovers come (in the distant future!)
I guess you dont HAVE to cut it, but I did cause I plan on running more gauges across, so it would interfere.Joxracing wrote:on those alumn. dashes, do you have to cut the orig. dash out??

Good to see you posting here CWRIZZ....
(more complete... better welds, seats mounted etc...) cage in the other car to avoid rust replacement (and scraping away the tar on the floor again )
I cant wait to explain to my womern why I overreved my 1600 trying to keep up with Chris's car.... so hurry the hell up RIZZ..... i'm getting restless.
This body is super clean... we don't need to do any rust replacement at all really... which is too cool. Hell yes you do. And before long, i'll have him talked into letting me cut the rest of his dash out to try building another complete dash.... it will be tough to color match spray paint to the green on the body thoughon those alumn. dashes, do you have to cut the orig. dash out??

Got the frame horns straight. Thanks to MB for the 2x4 steel tubing. A little leverage and it was good to go.
Put the motor and trans back in. Went off without a hitch, except for my CV bolt issue.
Thanks to Ricko for the tubing and his uncle for the Tri-Mil. Hopefully I can get some bumpers bent and seats mounted soon. Just need to tie down MB for a day!!

Now, they are just tacked in place, but turned out bitchin. After two solid days at motorbreath's house we got 'em done (and by "we" I mean MB, but I do pour a mean glass of lemonade). This is a huge step toward the night run, so its lookin better....
Still have to fully weld everything up and mount tabs for some seatbelts.
Got the bumper on like I said. Hopefully just for the night run only!! Maybe after I paint it, it will grow on me (doubt it).
And....I must have left it parked in a bad part of San Elijo Hills cuz it got tagged over night!!!
Thanks Danny for all your hard work (and I do mean ALL). Meanwhile, Wire Wheel Boy is off to do some wiring and hopefully fire up a 1914....15....ah crap, whatever!!
