I've had my car back from paint for most of the winter, working on reassembly. I haven't done anything to the paint - no polish, no washing or blowing the dust off. The paint turned out really well.
Over the course of time though (dust, taking the car cover on and off, wiping dust off) there are very faint scratches in the paint. Nothing major. Step back a foot and you'd never notice.
I'm curious about what I should do. Polish? Color sand?
I've read the stickies - sanding even with a very fine grit seems harsh to me.
Suggestions?
Very Basic Question

If your paint is basecoat/clearcoat, you can probably just repolish with foam finishing pad and polishing compound. It's about the equivalent of 5000 grit sandpaper. It should get most of the little stuff out. You need to be careful you don't get carried away and go through the clear.
Good luck,

are there any autowax finshes (like Mcguires etc) that would "fill" these.
Not seeing your blemishes, it may be possible to "wax" them smooth.
NOTE.. be very careful with covers.. check out the Eastwood site... if it's just dust you're trying to avoid, there are covers that are just for this.. your heavy hardware store covers many times create more issues than they create.
Any pix of your car?

Thanks for the feedback folks.
You can see pics (but not the detail I'm talking about) here: http://ghiablog.blogspot.com/.
Foam finishing pad and polishing compound - I will have to look into that, I am really a novice when it comes to polishing, buffing, etc.
As I understand the paint, it is basecoat clearcoat. This is a late model VW color - indigo blue pearlescent.

A quick wax job with a great product will get rid of those without a problem. Your next option if this doesnt take care of the problem would be to "clay bar" the vehicle as long as the paint has been on long enough. This will get rid of these imperfections as well as many others that you cant see. A good clay baring should be done atleast once every 1-1.5 years to eliminate buildup and contaminates to your paint.
I have a suggestion for an excellent place to get your products. I use them and havent found anything better for the money. Additionally the website has some tech articles and how to's.
