We'd love to help you - hoping we didn't scare you away. Sorry that we may have replied funky.
A little clarification will help with the reply.
What make, model and year are you looking for?
Most quality paint vendors do have a book of color codes.
One of the best routes I've found to getting a good paint code is to drive around parking lots and stalk folks (wierd I know).. instead of picking from a paint chip,
I'll ask them - "dude.. I'm in love with your car.. what color and year is it?"
The guy will then tell you everything needed to order up the paint... if you're very particular, find out where the the car was made... different factories use different vendors.
Mazda does have some cooler bright colors over the past 5 years.
Here to help.

thanks guys. Naw you didnt scare me away. Atleast I know this place has got a sense of humor.
Ive tried the stalk method. Everyone I have asked doesnt know, or drives off before I can ran back to them and ask.
Not looking for a particular year or anything. Just lookin to paint my super and need some ideas bigger than a one inch chip.
Two shades I do like are Plymouth Prowler yellow and Porsche Fayence (sp) yellow. Supposedly on 911.
Anything helps dudes!

There was a thread on the samba where a guy got the yellow paint code for that porsche yellow it was only on a couple years i think. If you see a car and want to know the paint code, it is marked on the vehicle. Ford products have a tag/sticker in the driver B post or on the driver door the code will be something like E4 (red) usually a letter and a number. GM products will be in the trunk either on the trunk lid or under that cover for the spare tire. It will also be a sticker with a ton of numbers the one your lookink for will say ex. (BC/CC 382e) thats pewter met or (BC/CC wa382e) its usually at the bottom of the sticker by itself. If its a GM truck it will be in the glove box or console. most other cars its on the door post like fords and actually says color/ trim. Hope this can help you in your search.

The dealers are VERY good at helping ID colors.
Funny thing we own a Yellow car - I'm not much of a fan of it.. rust just bellows through the color.
The yellow I find very attractive is the Mazda RX8 color.
The dealers normally have color choice brochures hidden way in the back.
VERY prudent choice not picking from a swatch.
Here's another tip for enmasse color selection.
Go to a commercial printer and ask for a "pantone key" or to a commercial paint vendor (house type) and ask for a "color key"
This is like a huge book of color codes on steroids... just about every imaginable hue and tone. You then walk up to cars you like.. figure out the closest match.. write down the number.. then take it to a car paint vendor for a match.
pantone keys are retired after a year.. most folks have a box sitting around... commercial paint chip keys are avaialble from factory reps.
Gas stations seem to be the best places for car color small talk.

One thing i forgot was DuPont has a color scanner that can scan a color and make a formula to mix from its called Chromavision. mabey if you have a decent size item in the shade of yellow you like they can scan it. It has to be a pretty flat sample so the camera can work. Most DuPont jobbers will have a camera
