so i went out of town for a while, battery died, tried to roll it down a hill and bump start it, but no dice. i have a battery drain problem in the winter ( and in winter only, if you have any ideas on this that would help too) so anyway we towed it back up the hill and i tried to bump start it again while it was being towed and still didnt work. usually when the bat dies this is all i have to do and it works.....so after a few minutes of towing nothing......now its in my garage and i have charged the bat and checked fro spark by takeing a plug wire off and got nothing....then i took the coil wire off and tried to get a spark out of that and nothing there either.....we to shop and put in new coil, and still nothing....turns over fine....im pretty sure the starter switch is fine but i ran out of ideas.....any help would be appreciated.... 73 super beetle, stock as a rock

What year is it? Does it have points and conderser, or is it electronic ignition? First it really doesn't matter if it is points or electronic ignition both pulse the coil to make it spark. Make sure you have battery power with the key on the positive terminal of the coil.

k...i got it working and sorry for not posting about it earlier......so after $16 for a new coil and about 4 hours of tinkering and replacing other things i found out waht it was.....tada...COIL WIRE!! so simple, the wires were not even a year old, maybe 3000 miles on them, but the coil wire went out.....the same exact thing happened on my rail buggy not to long ago and it caused just as much confusion....so next time your car just wont start but turns over, dont rule out the coil wire fellas.
