Goin to Fontana on Sunday

Well, with the last big VW event for the year, I decided to go try out the T4 at the track. I suppose I'll be in the 13.00 and slower class. To me it doesn't matter. I just want to get a chance to run it a couple of times. This won't be a trailer queen as I am making the 2 hour drive. I'll have my uncle driving my Jetta behind me just in case. He'll have the DOT's and all my tools.

I'll be sure to take video and put it up on youtube, photobucket, and myspace. Wish me luck guys. It's been a long road, yet it seems like I just started.

Before I go, I want to thank Doc for the great forum. It's the reason this project has progressed over the years. Jake, thank you for all your help. Richard, thanks for putting up with me with late night phone calls. Monte, thanks for letting me borrow your exhaust. Tuna, thanks for keepin us all together.

Take care,

E.

I'll be back! (no pun intended Mr. Governer). It's not a good bye. I'm just letting you guys (family) know what I'm up to, and letting you know what it means to get to this point.

Didn't mean to be dramatic.

Eddie since you are going to have a 2hr drive to the track, could you make a video of you leaving your home and you on the road with that beast. I just want to hear what that car sounds like on the road.

All right Eddie! Best wishes man, I know you have wanted to do this for a loooooong time. Thank me for the exhaust? YOU built it, and I don't have a running T4 yet, so it was SERIOUSLY the least I could do!

Good luck dude! Take lots of video and pics!!!

Passatman, I won't say anything about anyone breaking the law, but I do know recently, somewhere in Bakersfield, a certain bug sounded GREAT when a black late model Pontiac TA was trying to outrun said certain 67 bug, and couldn't do it! Image

Hello. I'm all set to go. DOT's, floor jack, and approximately 3 gallons of race gas are in the Jetta's trunk. I'm all set. I have a video camera and digital camera ready for some in car shots.

C ya!

Hey everybody. I'm back home. What an adventure. Left home about 4:30am, stopped in Valencia for a "pit stop"; when I got back on the freeway, my VDO oil pressure gauge shows 0 psi. Turns out to be a problem with either the gauge, wiring, or the sending unit. But manual gauge on the motor showed everything is good!.

About 15 minutes away from Fontana, my car quits!. Damn!. Ran outta gas. No sweat. Made it to the track on time anyways.

Oil temps 180-195 the whole way there. On the way back, oil temps 180-200. Pretty good considering I only have an external 96 plate oil cooler with fan.

I had a great time. Said hello to Marty, Muffler Mike, Pat Downs, and The Burnout King (Dominic) who lent me his helmet! Way cool. Thanks Dom.

I can't wait till next year...

Hey Monte. Richard called me for the skinny. In a way I'm happy, but in a way I'm not because it's a lot of motor to only run 15's. But I have to be realistic. It's a turbo motor without a turbo...

The exhaust was a real choke on the motor.

For now, that's all the motor is going to give me. I'm going to build my 2276 T1 again to push the turbo learning curve some more.

Richard's trying to talk me into putting the 2.6 in my 914. LOL!.

TURBO THE 2.6!!!

You already know enough about blowing up turbo type 1's!

Haha!. Yeah, but I ain't got the dough that's needed for that...

I don't know enough about making the T1's go fast yet either.

I just need to put all this together at some point.

Yo eddie that thing wants to breath also needs a turbo. 180 to 195 oil temps taht's good. What speeds did you see going to the track and back.
